What sets me apart is that I take the time to understand you, reviewing every angle, to develop the best path forward.

I have worked in Chinese medicine since 2009 and as a Bowen therapist since 1998.

I synthesise my broad education background – involving Japanese and Chinese schools of acupuncture, Chinese remedial massage, Bowen therapy, dietary therapy and exercise therapy – to assess what you need to regain your wellbeing.

My advice on what will and won’t work for every one of my clients is always honest, drawing from my continuing education and vast clinical experience.

If you’re not feeling 100% and you want to reach out to a qualified practitioner with more than 20 years of experience, make an appointment today.

Services

What to expect during a treatment at Acupuncture Mooloolaba

Your treatment may involve a range of therapies, depending on what I find is happening with your body at the time you come in to my Acupuncture Mooloolaba clinic:

  • Japanese acupuncture
  • Chinese remedial massage
  • Bowen therapy
  • moxibustion.

Whenever you come in, please allow up to 90 minutes. It takes time to fully address what’s happening with your system each treatment, so you will feel better sooner.

Between treatments, I may prescribe what I like to call homework:

  • dietary changes
  • supplements
  • stretches
  • exercises.

Whether I prescribe one or a combination of these therapies depends on your current state of health.

Health fund rebates are available.

Japanese Acupuncture

Japanese acupuncture is renowned for its gentle range of needle techniques, with an emphasis on pleasant and relaxing treatments.

The acupuncture needles I use are generally smaller and finer that the needles used by other acupuncturists.

As an acupuncturist using Japanese techniques, I insert the needles superficially, just slightly under the surface of the skin.

Generally speaking, this is more comfortable.

When you come in for a treatment, you will notice that I place emphasis on palpating your body. I am looking for reflex areas to determine the presence or absence of discomfort.

This is how I identify the acupuncture points that are best suited to you at the time of your treatment.

Bowen Therapy

Bowen therapy is a form of massage developed by the late Tom Bowen. It is different to traditional massage as no oil is required and it works across the muscle fibre, not with it.

Bowen therapy works on the fascia of the body, which is the connective tissue immediately under the skin and surrounding every muscle, bone and organ.

Bowen therapy involves a series of gentle cross fibre moves which are generally very relaxing.

Mary has been most strongly influenced by Japanese acupuncture.

She has undertaken training in the acupuncture styles of Kiiko Matsumoto and Tsuyoshi Shimamura, both of whom were students of Master Kiyoshi Nagano.

Master Nagano’s study of the classics and western medicine led to the development of his unique style, which was outside of the many established styles of practice popular in Japan in the second half of the 20th century.

Mary continues to advance her knowledge through continuing education programs and is a passionate and dedicated therapist, always seeking to expand her knowledge and skills.

Mary is a caring and skilled professional, committed to assisting her clients to reach their full potential. She sees healing through natural therapies as a way of achieving this.

Mary works exclusively at the Acupuncture Mooloolaba clinic and offers health fund rebates.
